CFD modelling - that’s what we do…

computational fluid dynamics

There’s no doubt that CFD modelling is a bit of an art form - after all, it’s not a subject that is traditionally taught in your typical undergrad degree. It requires an in-depth understanding of the physics of turbulence, aerodynamics and related fields that you only get in a post-grad degree and extensive industry experience. At Desanco, our engineers have both.

Air flow, water flow… it makes no difference to us. It just means that we have to be specialists in many industries, which suits us just fine. Read on to find out more.

built environment

  • Performance Solutions for car park ventilation (NCC, AS1668 and other standards) including the use of jet fans

  • Optimization of air flows, temperatures and HVAC designs for buildings including electrical substations

  • Fire engineering Performance Solutions including temperature and visibility predictions, tenability and occupant egress

  • Indoor air quality (IAQ) and thermal comfort (PMV/PPD) according to ASHRAE 55 and ISO 7730

  • Natural ventilation assessments of local micro-climates and urban environments

  • Toxic gas and vapour dispersion to ensure the safety of occupants and pedestrians

  • Louvre testing of aerodynamic performance and rain defence to AS4740

hazardous industries

  • Gas dispersion assessments to support hazardous area classification and risk assessment studies

  • Explosion modelling on offshore and onshore facilities to quantify blast overpressures and minimize escalation into safety-critical areas

  • Fire modelling to assess thermal and radiation loads

  • Helideck operational studies (CAP437) to investigate helideck availability due to the impact of high temperature and turbulence effects

  • Exhaust emission modelling from generators, compressors, pumps, etc. to assess toxic gas concentrations and their impact on critical areas such as HVAC intakes and accommodation quarters

  • Flare radiation to predict thermal loads and radiation isopleths

peer reviews

Peer reviews are often required for the building industry, especially where Performance Solutions have been provided. They can help you understand and evaluate a submission that a third party has presented, and can support submission documents under the building regulations.

Our team of CFD modelling experts have a wealth of experience on a range of large and small projects across the world - we can provide you with guidance on understanding the implications of a submission document or design, and assessing compliance with design codes.

Accuracy or suitability of a CFD model often depends on the knowledge and capability of the modeller; we are often engaged as an independent reviewer to verify consistency with best practice standards.
